The 6-week clearance is a starting line, not a finish line
Getting cleared by your OB or midwife at Driscoll, Bay Area, or Corpus Christi Medical Center means you can start reintroducing structured movement, not that your core and pelvic floor are ready for burpees. The first 8, 12 weeks post-clearance are about rebuilding foundation.
The postpartum training pyramid
- Breathing + pelvic floor reconnection.
- Core stability (dead bugs, bird dogs, planks).
- Basic strength (goblet squats, hinge patterns, rows).
- Progressive loading and eventually full training.
Signs you're pushing too hard too soon
- Coning or doming of the belly during any movement.
- Leaking during running, jumping, or lifting.
- Heaviness or pressure in the pelvic floor.
- Persistent lower back or SI joint pain.

A typical AE Fitness postpartum comeback timeline
- Weeks 1, 4 post-clearance: breathing, core reconnection, walking.
- Weeks 5, 8: bodyweight strength, sled work, easy rows.
- Weeks 9, 12: dumbbell strength, low-impact conditioning.
- Month 4+: full return to training if symptom-free.
How AE Fitness coaches postpartum training
Corpus Christi moms coming back from pregnancy get a program built around their timeline, birth type, and goals. We coordinate with local pelvic floor PTs when needed and we do not rush the timeline. Semi-private and private sessions available so babies-in-carriers are welcome when it works.
Put this into practice with a real coach.
