HYROX Training in Corpus Christi built for real race day performance.
Race-specific pacing, station technique, ski erg and rower work, sled programming, and run-engine builds, the coached HYROX training in Corpus Christi that gets first-timers to the finish line and experienced competitors under 90 minutes.
What actually happens, week by week.
Base build
Aerobic run base, sled introduction, wall-ball volume, technique clean-up on the stations.
Threshold block
Compromised running, station-to-run transitions, first mock race day.
Race simulation
Full 8-run/8-station simulation at 90, 95%. Pacing plan finalized.
Taper & execute
Volume drops, quality holds, fueling dialed in. Race-day plan rehearsed.

The sub-90 secret
First-time HYROX racers lose 8, 12 minutes at the sled and wall-ball stations, not on the run. Race prep here is 60% run engine, 40% station technique, and it's the station work that wins minutes back.
A coaching system, not a session count.

The AE Fitness HYROX training system
The system has four legs: run engine, station technique, strength base, and race simulation. Miss any of them and your race performance stalls.
Run engine is the largest bucket. Half of HYROX total time is running, and it's the most trainable category. Every HYROX athlete follows a weekly run structure with an easy aerobic base run, a tempo run, and a threshold or interval session. Corpus Christi's trail options, Bayfront, Cole Park, Oso Creek, make this easy to execute year-round.
Station technique is where most self-coached HYROX athletes leave time on the table. Ski erg pacing, sled push posture and stride, wall ball rep economy, and burpee broad jump depth all have coachable techniques that add up to minutes over 8 rounds.
Strength base, squat, deadlift, single-leg, core, is the injury-prevention insurance policy and the raw force floor under every station.
Race simulation is what separates race-day panic from race-day confidence. We run partial and full simulations in the training block leading up to your race.

First-time HYROX athletes
If your goal is to finish your first HYROX, we typically need 10, 16 weeks of coached programming. You do not need to be a runner or a lifter to start, we've taken beginners from a 5k they walked to a sub-100-minute HYROX finish.
First-timer prep starts with an assessment: run capacity, squat and hinge patterns, ski erg/rower baseline. We build a program that closes the biggest gaps first.

Competitive HYROX athletes
For competitive athletes chasing top-10 age-group placements or sub-90 finishes, we run more advanced programming: threshold and VO2 max intervals, station-specific speed work, doubles pacing strategy, and periodized peaking blocks.
Bring your race splits and we'll show you exactly where the minutes are hiding.

Who HYROX training is NOT the right fit for
HYROX training is not the fit for someone who wants a purely general-fitness membership without a race goal. The programming is intentionally sport-specific, ski erg, sled, burpee broad jump volume, and if you have no interest in racing, our small-group or personal training tracks are a better fit.
It's also not the right fit for the acutely injured. HYROX training loads the posterior chain, calves, and shoulders hard. A currently painful back, knee, or shoulder needs to be through PT before entering a HYROX block.

The eight HYROX stations, what changes when you're coached
Ski Erg (1000m). Coached pacing splits and stroke rate turn this from a race-ending grind to a controlled opener. Most self-taught athletes go out too hard and pay for it for the next hour.
Sled Push (50m at competition weight). Coached foot position, hip angle, and stride cadence save 20, 40 seconds per set at the same effort.
Sled Pull (50m). The most technique-sensitive station in the race. Grip strategy, foot placement between pulls, and body position determine whether this station takes 2 minutes or 5.
Burpee Broad Jumps (80m). Rep-economy work, how deep, how tall, how far, turns this from a heart-rate spike into a metronome.
Rower (1000m). Pacing splits and stroke rate that respect the running that comes next.
Farmer Carries (200m). Grip, breath, and stride pattern. The station that quietly makes the wall balls harder if you get it wrong.
Sandbag Lunges (100m). Load position, bracing, and step length. Where race-time hemorrhages if legs are unconditioned.
Wall Balls (100 reps). Rep-set strategy, breathing pattern, target consistency. The station that decides most sub-100-minute finishes.

Doubles and relay training
HYROX Doubles rewards seamless transitions and matched pacing. We build doubles pairs and relay teams with specific handoff drills, pacing plans, and communication scripts. Whether you're racing with your spouse or a training partner, the doubles format is coachable.

HYROX nutrition, training week and race day
Training-week fueling is the difference between hitting the workouts and just surviving them. HYROX athletes generally under-fuel, we build carb-forward eating windows around key run and simulation sessions.
Race-day fueling is a specific protocol: pre-race carb intake 2, 3 hours out, race-morning caffeine strategy, hydration in Coastal Bend and Texas heat, and post-race recovery meal. See our Nutrition Coaching page for the integrated framework.

Coach insight: what separates finishers from competitors
After coaching dozens of Corpus Christi athletes through HYROX events, the pattern is clear: finishers show up strong on race day; competitors show up strong on the last two stations. The difference isn't fitness, it's pacing discipline and station technique in the second half of the race.
Athletes who train under a coach hit the wall balls with legs that still work because they didn't overpace the sleds. Athletes who don't, hit the wall balls with jelly and lose 8, 15 minutes on the final 100 reps. That single insight is why every AE HYROX block ends with race-simulation training, the first time you feel that second-half pace should not be race day.
"HYROX rewards the hybrid athlete. Run without strength and you're finished at the sled. Lift without an engine and you're cooked by station four. Train both, win the day."

Frequently asked questions.
How long does it take to prepare for my first HYROX?
10, 16 weeks of coached programming is typical for a first-time finish. Athletes with a strong running or lifting background can be race-ready in 8.
Do I need a running or lifting background to start HYROX?
No. About half of new HYROX clients start from a general-fitness or class-only background. We build the run engine and strength base from scratch.
Can I train HYROX in a small-group class format?
Yes. We run HYROX-style small-group classes and dedicated HYROX prep blocks. Serious competitive athletes usually add 1-on-1 personal training on top.
What's the cost of HYROX training?
HYROX training runs through our standard membership plus personal training or dedicated HYROX blocks. The free consult builds the right structure for your race timeline.
Do you coach HYROX Doubles or Relay?
Yes. We build doubles pairs and relay teams with specific pacing and transition training.
Where are HYROX races that Corpus Christi athletes travel to?
Houston, San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas are the most common Texas events. National and international events available for competitive athletes.
What's a realistic first-time HYROX finish time?
Most well-prepared first-timers finish between 85 and 110 minutes. Faster is possible with a strong endurance or CrossFit background; a first goal of 'finish strong on the wall balls' is the right target for most.
How does HYROX compare to CrossFit?
HYROX rewards steady aerobic pacing and rep economy over the max intensity CrossFit trains for. Most CrossFit athletes crossing over need to build a real running base, see our HYROX vs CrossFit guide.
Can I train HYROX at 40, 50, or 60?
Yes. HYROX has strong age-group divisions and one of the most inclusive competitive rosters in fitness racing. Programming adjusts recovery volume, not intensity.
Do you offer HYROX training for women only?
Programming is mixed by default. Women's Doubles pairs and women-only training blocks are available on request.
What HYROX equipment do you have?
Competition-standard sleds, ski ergs, rowers, wall ball targets, and sandbags at HYROX race weights. You'll train on the equipment you'll race on.
