1. Respect the humidity
Corpus Christi averages 75%+ humidity most of the year. Your body cools by evaporating sweat, and when the air is already saturated, sweat doesn't evaporate. That means higher heart rate, faster fatigue, and real heat-illness risk if you ignore it. Drop volume or intensity 10, 15% on humid days. It's not weakness, it's smart programming.
2. Train the shoulders of the day
From May through September, outdoor training belongs before 8 AM or after 7 PM. The 5 AM and 6 AM classes at AE Fitness fill first for exactly this reason. The noon indoor class is a solid alternative.
3. Electrolytes, not just water
Sweating in the Coastal Bend, you lose serious sodium. Pure water alone can actually make you feel worse (hyponatremia). Use LMNT, Liquid IV, coconut water, or a pinch of sea salt + citrus in your water for sessions over 45 minutes.
4. Salt air is not an excuse
Salt corrodes chains, cables, and unsealed metal. If you train in your garage or backyard, wipe down equipment weekly and store dumbbells and bars off the concrete. It's why AE Fitness maintains climate-controlled indoor space, your body, and your equipment, last longer.
5. Build heat tolerance gradually
If you're new to Corpus Christi or coming off a winter of light training, your first two weeks of summer sessions should be at 70% effort. Full intensity from day one is how people end up in the ER.
6. Have a hurricane-season plan
June, November means storms happen. AE Fitness stays open through most weather events, but keep 2, 3 backup home sessions (bodyweight circuits, resistance band work) in your pocket for the days everything closes.
7. Use the coast
The Gulf is a free recovery tool. Cold-water immersion (yes, even our "cold" winter Gulf), long beach walks for zone-2 aerobic base, sand sprints for conditioning. Coastal Texas is a strength, treat it that way.
