When can kids start strength training?
Under proper coaching, kids can begin structured resistance training around age 11, 12. The 'strength training stunts growth' myth has been debunked repeatedly, poor coaching is the actual risk, not the weights.
What youth training should focus on
- Movement quality first, squat, hinge, push, pull, brace.
- Speed and change of direction.
- General strength before any sport-specific loading.
- Injury prevention (hamstring, ankle, shoulder).
What youth training should NOT look like
- 1RM testing before technique is locked in.
- Adult bodybuilding splits on a 14-year-old.
- Zero recovery days.
- Weights heavier than form allows.

- Track / cross country, strength plus mobility, hamstring resilience.
