How to Train Through a Corpus Christi Summer (Heat, Humidity, Hydration)

Corpus Christi summers are hot, humid, and long. Training through them requires a plan, not just a will. Here's how our clients keep progressing from June to September without heat exhaustion or a stalled program.

How to Train Through a Corpus Christi Summer (Heat, Humidity, Hydration)

Move outdoor sessions to sunrise or evening

Any outdoor run, walk, or beach workout after 10 a.m. between June and September is a bad idea for most people. 6, 8 a.m. and 7, 9 p.m. are the windows. Ocean Drive at sunrise is the best run in the city.

Take strength training indoors

This is the season to lean into gym training. Air conditioning, structured programming, and no risk of heat exhaustion. AE Fitness is cold. On purpose.

Electrolytes matter more than water

  • Sodium, 500, 1000 mg per training hour in summer.
  • Potassium and magnesium from real food (bananas, avocado, potato, leafy greens).
  • Water, but not water alone, or you'll cramp anyway.
  • LMNT, DripDrop, or a homemade mix all work.

The summer step target

Beach walks at sunrise on Padre Island count. Cole Park loops at 7 a.m. count. Trying to hit 10k steps by walking through La Palmera at 3 p.m. doesn't count when it's 96 degrees outside.

What to expect in your training numbers

Expect 5, 10% performance drops on long conditioning in July and August. That's not a program failure, it's physiology. Push strength, protect conditioning, and re-test in October.
